Odds and Ends

Hi.  I hope you’re having a nice New Year’s Eve.  Today I’m posting some odds and ends of holiday polishes I bought this season.

The first batch is from head2toebeauty.com.

These are two holiday mini sets from China Glaze.

1 - Opal's Gems - China Glaze Cheers set

Above includes Angel’s Wings and Glistening Snow from the Holiday Joy collection.

2 - Opal's Gems - China Glaze Stocking Stuffers set

Above includes Pure Joy and Champagne Kisses  from the Holiday Joy collection.

In a previous haul, I bought three of the Color Club Halo Hues: Cherubic, Blue Heaven, and Halo-graphic.  I loved them so much, I bought the other three of the set.  They are so gorgeous!  How could I resist?

3 - Opal's Gems - CC Halo Hues

4 - Opal's Gems - CC Halo Hues

Next are four polishes from the Color Club Winter Affair collection: Winter Affair, Ho-Ho-Holly, and Gift of Sparkle.  I’ve already used Ho-Ho-Holly in a previous post.

5 - Opal's Gems - CC Holiday Polishes

6 - Opal's Gems - CC Holiday Polishes

Below I have China Glaze Winter Holly (Holiday Joy collection) and Color Club Snow Flakes (Winter Affair collection).

I’ve already shown Winter Holly being used in a couple of my blog posts.  Here and here.

This season, I’ve bought several of the polishes from the China Glaze Holiday Joy collection, including the mini sets above.  I showed Pizzaz and Glitter All the Way in this post.

 7 - Opal's Gems - Winter Holly & CC Snow Flakes

8 - Opal's Gems - CG Winter Holly & CC Snow Flakes

You might remember back around Halloween I had some nail polishes in round bottles with Jack’o’lantern faces.  These are put out by Blue Cross Beauty.  Well, they also have cute little snowmen bottles.

They are so adorable!  And so far the ones I’ve tried are really nice.

I bought these ones directly from their website, but you have to buy a whole display.  (I did that because I want to use the extras as gifts.)

9 - Opal's Gems - Blue Cross Snomen

I also got a set of nail polish pens from them.  They act as both a striping brush and a pen.  I bought the holiday set, which should have been red, green, gold, silver, black and white.  Unfortunately, instead of green they sent hot pink!  I asked them to send me green to replace the missing ones and when I received them, they were neon green.  Not too Christmasy!

12 - Opal's Gems - Art Pens from Blue Cross

Here are the ones that should have been a nice glittery Christmas green!

13 - Opal's Gems - Art Pens from Blue Cross

The green one doesn’t even have the printing on the bottle!

Now I can update my stash count.  I only update it when I update a haul and I’m way behind!

Ornate and Glamourous!

Hi.  I got some lovely nail polishes for my birthday from my husband.   These gave me a great start for the holiday season!

There are lots of pictures so I’ll keep the words to a minimum!  First up is the Zoya holiday collection, called Ornate.

1-100_31282-100_31363-100_31434-100_31425-100_3138 6-100_3146 7-100_3140

Next were some fabulous glitters from Orly.  These are from the Flash Glam collection, which I absolutely adore!

I already have the five that Sally’s carried in the fall (Spazmatic, Sasay My Way, Can’t be Tamed, Mermaid’s Tale, Be Brave), but when I looked on the Orly website (http://www.orlybeauty.com/flash-glam-fx.php) and found out they had 22 in all, I fell in love with these ones  Now their mine!

8-100_3151 9-100_3153 10-100_3155 11-100_3159 12-100_3166 13-100_3168

These are so beautiful, I wanted to include some close-ups of each bottle.

14-100_3170 15-100_3171 16-100_3176 17-100_3182 18-100_3187 19-100_3189 20-100_3190 21-100_3195 22-100_3198_2

I’m going to have fun trying these out and finding basecoats to match, but that will wait until after Christmas.  (Maybe I’ll try one for New Year’s Eve!)  Until then, I’m going to concentrate on some holiday manicures.

Skull-icious Glitter!

1- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

Hi.  I know it’s closer to Christmas than Halloween, but I got these really cute polishes with skull shaped bottles and really gorgeous nail polish, and they arrived in an on-line order after Halloween.

Cute, right?

2- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

The polishes are from Blackheart Beauty, and I got them at Hot Topic.

3- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

I had some fun using some plastic skull shot glasses I found at Rite-Aid before Halloween, with a tea light candle in the top, for the pictures.

This first one is a bright pink jelly with flakies.  The name is Deceit.  All the polishes were $5 each, but this beauty was on for 50% off!

The flakies are different that others I have—the first with pink flakes!  I had to try it right away, so I put it over the mani I had on at the time, which was the one with my Sephora birthday nail polishes.  (Pictures near the end of the post.)

4- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

Look at the gorgeous, glittery flakes!

5- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

The next one is Royally Screwed, a rich royal blue glitter.

6- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

7- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

8- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

This last one is called Violet Tendencies, a purple with a beautiful  iridescent sheen.

9- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

10- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

In this close-up, you can see it seems to have a golden flash.  I can hardly wait to try this on my nails!

11- Opal's Gems - Blackheart Nail Polish

I wanted to try Deceit right away, anxious to see those pink flakies in action, so I put it on my current mani, which was the Sephora trio I got from my birthday.

On my thumb and ring finger I had Tornado, and Shale on the others.  Here are the results.

I couldn’t resist taking a picture against my deck tin with the angel picture.  I thought the colours worked so well together.

Darn, now that I’ve looked at the Hot Topic website again (to provide the link at the beginning of the post), I have another batch I want to buy.  They have a gorgeous oil slick colour, an iridescent glitter, a killer copper… I could go on and on.  Also, right now, everything is BOGO 50% off!

My next post will probably be the fabulous Pure Ice haul I got.  All glitter and incredibly gorgeous!

And so this adds three to my stash count!

I Struck Gold!

1-Opal's Gems-Sephora-Opulent Lacquer-Black

Hi.  It’s been a while since I’ve posted.  I had deadlines for both my serial novel and review proof pages for my February release.

It was my birthday recently and my friend (and almost daughter), Jenn, got me some lovely polishes from Sephora.

She knows me so well and always picks out exactly what I would like.  Such as the “It’s Real 18k Gold Topcoat” from Sephora.  There are a number of gold flake topcoats out now:  from Sephora, Jessica, Zoya, and OPI, but I really like the Sephora because the flakes are so fine, and plentiful.

She also got me a Sephora  + PANTONE UNIVERSE® Opulent Lacquer trio.  There are four trio sets (gold, silver, red, black) and she got me the black set.

Left to Right:  Tornado, Anthracite, Shale

There are two glitters, and a black crème that will be a great base.

Here’s a close-up of the glitters so you can see the beautiful colours.

Jenn wanted to try out the gold leaf, so we did her nails with China Glaze Audrey as the base coat.

Here’s the result.

I love this combination of turquoise and gold, and the flakes are so delicate looking.

Here’s a close-up.  So pretty!

A few days later, I used the trio.

I used Anthracite (plain black) as the base,  then Tornado on my ring finger and thumb and Shale on the other fingers.

Here’s a close-up of Shale.  Look at the gorgeous multi-colour holo!

Here’s an out of focus shot of Tornado to show how much the holo flashes!

I know I have some more nail polish to come for my birthday.  I’ll find out this weekend, so I should have more new polishes to showcase soon!

And my count has gone up:

Frightfully Fun! (Part 3)

Hi!  Here is my final Halloween haul, though as I mentioned last time, there are only three Halloween polishes.  This is a selection of polishes I order from Eighty Eight Beauty Supply, including some older polishes and some brand new ones.

First are the three Halloween polishes, all from China Glaze.  The first two are from the 2011 Haunting collection and the other one is from the 2010 Awakening collection.

Here are some close-ups so you can see the lovely shimmer and glitter.

It’s Alive (Haunting collection)

Haunting (Haunting collection)

Ick-a-bod-y (Awakening collection)

Next up, I have two lovely glitters from new Holiday Joy collection from China Glaze, along with Techno from the older Electropop collections.  I’ve admired Techno from afar.  Who wouldn’t?  Look at those gorgeous holo circles.

Pizzazz (Holiday Joy collection)

Glitter All the Way (Holiday Joy collection)

Techno (Electropop collection)

Here I have some oldies but goodies from Color Club.

Red Velvet (Untamed Luxury collections)

Worth the Risque (Femme Fatale collection) and Fashion Addict (Catwalk Queen collection)

I love duochromes, but I have a lot in my collection now, so when the Bohemian collection came out from China Glaze, I decided to get just one: Unpredictable.  Also, the royal blue is Cold Metal from Color Club to complete my Foiled collection.  I found the whole collection at Winner’s for a great price, but someone had taken out the blue and replaced it with a teal.  It’s a nice colour, but not part of the Foiled collection, so I ordered Cold Metal on-line.

While shopping the Eighty Eight site, I found these magnets to be used with magnetic polishes, so I picked them up.  Aren’t they cute?  They were $1.88 each.  They also had a little card that shows you the polarity lines on magnets, so I got that ,too.  I show it below displaying three of my magnets, including the star design from my China Glaze magnet.

Finally, I’m really excited by the next three.  They are from the new Halo Hues from Color Club.  As soon as I opened the package and saw the rainbow effect of the holo right in the bottles, I was in love!  They are so beautiful!  I think I’ll have to order the other three.

Look at the beautiful rainbow effect in the closeups.  They’re even more beautiful in real life!

Cloud Nine (Halo Hues collection)

Harp On It (Halo Hues collection)

Angel Kiss (Halo Hues collection)

That’s it for now!

Number of polishes in my collection:

Frightfully Fun! (Part 2)

Hi.  I mentioned I have a couple more hauls of Halloween nail polish to share.  I’d seen swatches for the China Glaze Wicked collection so I went hunting for it at my local Sally’s Beauty for the at the beginning of October. They had three of the polishes in a set with a bonus glow in the dark topcoat, so I bought the set and the other three polishes to complete the collection.

Here is the set of three with the topcoat.  This was on special for $11.  (Remember I’m in Canada so that price may differ from what it was selling for in the U.S.)

From left to right:  Roguish Red, Glitter Goblin, Bizarre Blurple, and Ghoulish Glow

The Roguish Red is more a deep orange than red, IMO.  The Bizarre Blurple is more purple than the picture shows.  That’s what I used on my nail for spider web nails I posted a few days ago.

Here are some close-ups.

The individual polishes were $6.50.  (I did get my member discount and my monthly 15% coupon on everything.)

Left ot right: Cast a Spell, Make a Spectacle, Immortal

Here’s the whole collection.

They also had Finger Paints on sale: buy one get one free, so I picked up four of those.  (These were normally $5.50 each.)

Left to right: Sketch n Etch, Silver Sculpture, Get Real-ism, Purple Palette

I know the middle two purples are pretty close, but I needed a fourth and I was in a hurry.  I think I can do something interesting with them, though.  Maybe texturing with saran wrap to give a subtle effect.

The green has a pretty shimmer.

And look at this nice glitter!

I have one more Halloween hauls to post, but there are only three Halloween polishes.  These are from older collections and I just received them in the mail from Eighty Eight Beauty Supply.  I’ll probably post my whole haul, not just the Halloween ones.  It’s a grab bag of stuff, both old and new.  It even includes a few interesting magnets for magnetic polish that will be fun.

Until next time!

Frightfully Fun! (Part 1)

Hi.  As I’ve mentioned before, I live in Canada, which means I don’t have local access to some of the great nail polishes available in the U.S.  Luckily, however, I live only 45 minutes from the border, and I often drive down to Ogdensburg, NY.

For Halloween, Blue Cross Beauty Products puts out a line called Phantom Frights that includes polish in cute little pumpkin bottles.  They are quite adorable and I really wanted to get some.  I had heard that Rite Aid carried these polishes, so I planned a trip to Ogdensburg in late September.  On the day I arrived, there was a good selection of Phantom Frights, though, I must admit, not quite so many after I left!

There were some black light polishes in neon colours.  I got a purple, blue and bright pink.  The purple looks much bluer in the picture than in real life.

Their faces are so cute!  Every bottle has a happy jack-o-lantern face on one side and a scary one on the other.

What is that orange and yellow thing in front of the pumpkins, you ask?  Those are glass stones that I picked up at Michael’s Craft store, then painted with nail polish on the bottom to create pretty gems.  They make great pendants, pins, or magnets.

I took the following photograph with the flash.  I love how they glow!

This glow in the dark orange and a plain black crème look very Halloween-y.

Now my favourites.  Glitter!  I bought the light pink glow in the dark for the daughter of a woman I met at a book club I was invited to.  It’s so cute and has tiny holo glitter.

I couldn’t resist showing you a close up of the glitters.

And doesn’t this guy look happy!

In addition to the pumpkin bottles, which were $2.99 each, they had this set of polishes for just $4.99!

Finally, they also had duo bottles, with black polish on one end and glitter on the other.  The display had space for six, but there were only these five left.  Of course, I got them all!

Yes, I know there are clearly duplicates, but I got them anyway.  Maybe I’ll do a giveaway sometime in the future to get rid of the extras.

I have two more Halloween hauls, which I will post soon.

Have you found any great Halloween polishes this year, or do you have any long-time favourites?

Number of polishes in my collection:

Yeah, I know I said in my first post I had gone over the 500 mark, but I haven’t updated my spreadsheet with the latest polishes, so they don’t count yet. 🙂
